Just another day...

Today I was at work, taking a gentleman's order. We'd just about
finished up and I asked him "is there anything else I can do for you
today?" Without hesitation he replied, "yes, please pray for my son.
He's in iraq." I told him I would (theological issues aside) and he went
on to tell me about himself and his wife and son before adding "I don't
know why I'm telling you this. I guess sometimes you just need to get it
out." And I felt for him, because I can only imagine how draining it is
to worry each and every day that it's a very real possibility that your
son is hurt, scared, laying on his belly being shot at, about to be
blown up by a homemade bomb or any number of other awful
possibilities... I guess it served as a reminder of all the healthy,
safe loved ones who surround me that I am thankful for this week and
every week... when ihung up I wiped my tears and thought some good
thoughts for that young man and all the others risking their lives
and/or giving up their lives to protect others... police, firemen,
doctors, nurses, soldiers, etc...

I am also thankful that we have those people....
As a very wise man once said,

" We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm. "
-George Orwell

Next time, tell that man to tell his son "Thank you"
